Advent is one of the crucial seasons in churches. It is surprising that many individuals don't have an idea of what Advent is. Some Christians mistake it for Christmas. It is vital to understand and appreciate some basics of advent, as some belief and customs are practiced during this season. Actually, advent season is well known in the calendar of the year of the church. This is the time when Christians should involve themselves in many prayers. Advent period goes for about four weeks before Christmas. Purple or violet is the official color worn apart from week three when pink or rose is put on. Advent period starts in the middle of November. Non-Catholics who are commonly referred to as Protestants probably don't have the idea that Advent season comes before Christmas. Advent season ushers in Christmas period after which it goes on for a few weeks after Christmas. Advent is a commemoration day that comes when Christians are waiting for the birth of Jesus Christ. We should repent and prepare ourselves for the birth of Jesus Christ as it is very critical during advent. Pagans are called upon by churches to convert and accept Jesus to be born and dwell in their hearts. During this time everybody tries to live holy and pure life believing that Jesus Christ would be born in their hearts. Advent is somehow similar to the Lenten season as it is a season when Christians are sterner about their faith. Christians are not supposed to fast as it is the case with the Lenten season, but it is a less festive and bare season before the joyful Christmas period that is full of celebrations. It is the time of when Christians ask for forgiveness and show that they are sorry and regret doing what is wrong. Fasting is also practiced as a sign of contrition or self-reproach. During the mass animation, the "Gloria" section is not mentioned during masses as the Christians are in a somber mood preparing for the birth of Jesus Christ. Christians are also motivated to ask forgiveness from others who are also requested to have empathy for them and accept to forgive and forget.
